MY TEETH / Erosion

Too much acidic food stuffs - such as citrus fruit and fizzy drinks - can really damage your teeth.
It is hard to believe, but it is actually possible to dissolve your teeth away by drinking too many acidic drinks. The worst offenders are fizzy drinks, squash and even fruit juice.

Erosion can also be caused by stomach acid – patients who suffer from acid reflux and bulimia are often affected.

As the surface layers of tooth are dissolved away they can become sensitive.

To help prevent this drink through a straw…a simple remedy but effective. Better is to avoid these drinks and opt for water or milk. There are some new calcium-fortified fruit juices on the market which reduce erosion. Also see your doctor if you are suffering from a stomach complaint.

The damage is worsened by brushing your teeth straight after drinking an acidic drink because you will brush away the surface layer that has been softened by the acid.
