Porcelain is used to make inlays –these are fillings which are initially made outside the mouth – usually by a technician – and then dentists use them to fill large cavities. Inlays are preferred for this kind of task, because their material strength is higher than standard fillings.

Porcelain inlays are considered to be durable, and the manufacturing process involved allows for a high degree of accuracy in placing the inlay. Porcelain inlays bind onto the tooth and this means the overall strength of the tooth is increased. They are cemented into place with special adhesives and help hold the damaged parts of the tooth together. These inlays are durable, and appear very tooth-like – and they may cost more than other types of filling procedures.
